Procreate no more

Children of men
I expected the movie, Children of Men(released in 2006) to be a dull post-apocalyptic sappy war story set in the future. To be frank, I’ve never heard of this movie before and wasn’t looking forward to watch till the end of it. Watched the movie without reading any reviews and comments. I watched the movie in a clean slate.
After sitting through 1 hour and 44 minutes of movie magic, it surprised me.
Let me give you a brief introduction of what the movie is about. It is the year 2027, mankind can no longer procreate( no more babies). The survival of the human race hinges on the existence of the few people left on the planet. World plunged into chaos. Countries are ravaged by civil wars and mass hysteria. Britain is the only country left standing well on its on. There’s internal strife within the country. Nada…nada. Problems here, problems there. It’s a sadistic and pessimistic world in the movie. How can man ever find redemption for himself?
This is a British film. Children of Men is akin to V for Vendetta. Both films are set in a futuristic fascist Britain. They highlight the government’s oppression on selective groups of people.
Now for the review.
+
+Clever story. It didn’t even cross my mind what will happen to mankind if we can no longer procreate. Few movies demonstrate this kind of scenarios. The movie shows the pile of problems that follow after the last baby was born on Earth. It just tickles my mind and fuels my curiosity to find out how the heck these people can still have the will to kill each other even though civilization is about to fall. It simply, amazes me. Basically, it shows how stupid people are. They’re killing themselves for gods-sake.
+It makes me think. The movie leaves me with a lot of room to think. The references in the movie are subtle but if you’re the analytical sort, you’ll find that some scenes are outright controversial and some are just to abstract. Taking that abstract idea and exploring what it means blew my mind away.
+Realistic tone. This isn’t your normal Science fiction movie with laser guns and towering robots. The future is real and believable. It parallels our own world.
+No holds-barred. This movie is not a gory one but it clearly shows that it is has zero restrictions when it comes to combat and warfare. You’ll see how death comes in an instant with a single bullet shot. No dramatic deaths or whatever. You get the real-deal.
+Excellent set-pieces. Although the general atmosphere for the movie features droopy and pessimistic grey landscapes and cities. One set piece took the movie to a whole new level. Sadly, it was near the end of the movie but it was definitely worth it.

Human project
-Draggy start. The first 30 minutes of the movie totally turned me off and bored me to hell.
-Insufficient background info. I don’t even know how they movie took a great turn by introducing one of the main protagonist in the middle of the movie. At least give a little information on how the protaganist came to be. Not some unknown godsend child messiah.
-I’ma believe something exists. The all important protagonist headed to a safe haven she doesn’t even know whether it exists.
I give this movie a 3/5 stars.
