Valkyria Chronicles anime
The most underrated game on the Playstation 3,Valkyria Chronicles(not to be mistaken as Valkyrie acted by Tom cruise) is one of my favourite games on the PS3. It’s not the usual run-and-gun type of game you’d see me play. It’s based on a whole different genre. Combining the ever popular elements of a role-playing game and strategy turn-based gameplay, it’s a recipe for hours of fun. Not to mention frustrations too. Now i’m not reviewing the game here. Everything about the game is great. Trust me, if you play it, you’ll know what I mean.
Instead, i’m gonna introduce you guys to Valkyria Chronicles(Senjou no Valkyria) anime. Inspired and adapted from the game itself. Brought to you by A-1 pictures.
Excerpt.
The game is set in Europa, a fictional version of Europe, in 1935. Because of its abundance of ragnite ore, which can be refined into a powerful fuel, the neutral nation of Gallia comes under attack from the East Europan Imperial Alliance, which is itself engaged in a war with the Atlantic Federation. Players take control of an uprising of Gallian nationals, dedicated to repelling the invasion. The game’s visuals, which feature SEGA’s Canvas graphics engine, have received a lot of attention – with CANVAS, the game’s entire graphical style is built to resemble a watercolor painting in motion.
If the game was great, the anime should be no less stellar than it. Thankfully, the anime is generally impressive. With artistically detailed backdrops and character models, the anime version sure lives up to the game version. To those familiar with the game you’ll notice that on your first glance, you can see a stark difference in the art direction.
Notice any differences? Hint: One small, one big
In the game version, the art direction uses water-coloured style graphics to portray the game in motion as well as it’s cutscenes.Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful in its own way. Every bit of it is a great work of art. However in the anime version, the art is toned down to meet mainstream and popular culture demand. Short to say, it’s similar to any popular anime you might be watching or may have watched.

Squad 7 - Game version
The anime is faithful to the game version as a whole. I’m not gonna release any spoilers here. So, get your latest fix of Valkyria Chronicles from any streaming anime video site. However, if you played the game, there are some minute and major differences in the anime. Were you disappointed with the game because it does not delve deep on the character arcs? The anime version is a redeems itself. This is work of a fan-fiction. Although it might not be canonical, it fits perfectly into the storyline.
I was however pissed off with one episode. It was a recent one. Let’s just say they were lazy when making that episode. They cut a set piece which could stretch up to 2 episodes but they squeezed it all into one.
They retained some of the humour found in the game. Which is not a bad thing. What i really liked is that they added more stereotypical anime humour elements. This makes it more alive and more human in a way.

Zaka - Anime version
The first few episodes are slow and may bore you to death. Although i knew the storyline from the start (all thanks to the game) it’s unfamiliar to adapt to it’s slow pace. Maybe i’m too used to the game. When the real action kick in, it pulls out all the stops. You’ll get to see explosions and bullets wheezing around. It’s all mayhem. It’s not your typical mayhem it’s an ordered chaos. The series clever storyline will draw you to the world of strategy and decisive maneuvers.
If you liked Gundam Seed/destiny and Gundam 00 series, this anime will interest you. Those who are into coordinated battleplans and seek an engaging love story, this anime is for you. War fanatics and veterans will see a different light to the most brutal war ever seen by man. World war 2.
Valkyria Chronicles is still ongoing and now is currently at episode 16. It keeps getting better and better every episode.
By the way, my type of girl is Alicia. She’s just so cute and feisty. I like.

Selvaria was a little too buxom in our opinion. We thought the pace bogged down after teh first 6 or so episodes.
The anime turned out to be high quality. Well art directed with nicely done vehicles and characters. Less good were the characterizations; many seemed too stereotypical.
Here is our take on it with lots of pics and a few bits if wit if you are interested:
