aishah's maiden performance

aishah's maiden performance

Recently attended an informal no-strings attached drama performance in my school (Black Box). Pontianak the musical is a story about 5 ghosts searching for a purpose in the afterlife. Hey, it’s not a serious drama purely with scary elements in it. Instead it’s a comedy meant to tickle your funny bone.

Two words: Freaking awesome. Aishah, one of the lead actresses in the drama invited us to her maiden drama performance. Glad that Elyssa, Izzaty, Atiqah, Ilyas and Zman were able to catch it yesterday. For me, i thoroughly enjoyed the drama performance. Seriously, i needed a breather to lighten me up. The drama did the work for me.

Now let’s talk about the drama performance.

The ambiance was top-notch considering that it was held in the Black Box. Score 1 point for the pseudo bone-chilling atmosphere.

Opening was a letdown. I couldn’t really hear what they were singing in the opening. They were kinda like mumbling the lyrics. The crowd was also an utter bunch of failure. They were noisy. Well, only for a few minutes after the opening. No points for that.

The overall acting was satisfactory. The actresses in the drama were able to dutifully deliver a good and consistent performance. The male extras were a disappointment. They had zero facial expressions. Bland and boring. Only the 2 male leads were great.

Storyline is refreshing. It’s not complicated and is welcomed to many. This is especially true when our beliefs and culture are infused to the drama itself. People are normally terrified when it comes to the supernatural. The drama takes it with a twist. Let me tell you about the storyline. I like the comedic parts in the drama. Quoted from one of the actors in the drama “My tetek never lies” Hahaha

  • 5 ghosts are searching for a purpose. The main ghost (kak titi – pontianak) has a “bomoh” or witch doctor as her master and she does his bidding.
  • Aishah(my friend) plays as a mum in the show. She has a son(hanif). Her son meant everything to her.
  • Aishah has a curse and wants to undo it. She sought help from the Bomoh. Not knowing that she needs to pay a hefty price for that after 3 days. The “bomoh” wants  her son’s soul away from her.
  • Kak titi(mortal mode) was wandering in the park and met Hanif. They fell in love. Man this part was exaggerating, it was like some scene from a P.Ramlee movie. Those malu2 or shy type of meetups.
  • 3 days up. Kak titi was ordered by her master to take Aishah son’s(hanif) soul. When titi visited hanif’s room, she realised that it was him and couldn’t take his life.
  • Titi decided to go against her master with ghostly friends. They took him down and now she’s free. She vowed to her self not to fall in love again. End of story

Good storyline. Another point for that.

Overall, the drama is freaking awesome. Pictures available below.
